Norway is building the first ship tunnel in the world

Norway is preparing to begin construction of the world's first ship tunnel after parliament approved the allocation of millions of dollars to complete the planning stage.

According to the plan, the construction of the tunnel, which will be called "Shibl Tanel Stadium", will begin in 2018.

The tunnel is planned to be 1.7 km long, 26 meters wide and 37 meters high, according to preliminary project designs.

The project aims to provide maximum protection in an area described as the most dangerous on the Norwegian coast, specifically in the "Stadhavet" because of the waves and strong winds, where the region can be exposed to 100 days of storms every year.

The total cost of the project is expected to reach US $ 267 million.

The construction of the tunnel is expected to be completed within 4 years, but the operation of the project and the transit of the ships may not actually start until 2029
